Concrete Superplasticizers – CapcoNorm SPCA218

Superplasticizer or CapcoNorm SPCA218 is a high-range water reducer, strong water reducer, and accelerator used to significantly increase the flowability of concrete/mortar, especially for concrete casting in cold weather, without changing the water-to-cement ratio or reducing flowability. This additive also has the feature of increasing one-day compressive strength.

This product is produced in accordance with the general requirements of the Iranian national standard number 2930-1 and the performance requirements outlined in tables 1-3, 2-3, and 6 of the Iranian national standard number 2930-2. Additionally, this additive complies with the requirements of ASTM C494 standards under categories C and F, and table 1 of EN 934-1 standard, as well as tables 1-3, 2-3, 6, and 7 of EN 934-2 standard.

Permissible Range for Using Superplasticizer in Concrete:

The permissible range for the use of CapcoNorm SPCA218 is from 0.4% to 1.2% by weight of cementitious materials (400 to 1200 grams per hundred kilograms of cementitious materials, including cement, silica fume, slag, fly ash, and other similar pozzolanic materials). The optimal dosage of the additive should be determined based on the mix design specifications and the prevailing construction and weather conditions. Exceeding the declared permissible limit might lead to consequences such as segregation, water bleeding, or immediate reduction in concrete setting time, especially for concrete containing rapid-setting cements.

How to Mix Concrete Superplasticizer:

To use the additive, it is necessary to dilute it with water in double the volume of the additive. Then, add it to the concrete when it has reached a low initial slump. Additionally, the following points should be observed:

  • After adding the additive, the concrete should be thoroughly mixed for 2 to 5 minutes to ensure complete blending, and uniform distribution of the additive in the concrete.
  • This additive should not come into direct contact with dry cement or dry aggregate materials.
  • The volume of water used to dilute the additive (before adding it to the concrete) should be subtracted from the total mixing water in the concrete.
  • If there is a desire to significantly increase the slump of fresh concrete, it is necessary for the concrete mix design to be prepared in such a way that the concrete does not experience segregation and water bleeding.
