Supplementary Cementitious Materials / Silica Fume Slurry (Slurry 500)

Silurry 500 is a suspension of microsilica in water used to increase the strength and durability of concrete. This product, having strong pozzolanic properties, reacts with calcium hydroxide resulting from hydration. The secondary products of this pozzolanic reaction reduce the permeability of concrete and enhance its mechanical strength and abrasion resistance.

The microsilica present in this product complies with the general requirements of the Iranian National Standard No. 13278, as well as the specifications outlined in the ASTM C1240 and EN 13263-1 standards.

The advantages of using slurry in concrete include:

• Enhances compaction ability under various conditions and increases compressive strength at the same water-to-cement ratio.
• Enhances the concrete's ability to be pumped efficiently.
• Decreases water Permeability under pressure in the concrete.
• Lowers the risk of steel reinforcement corrosion in chloride environments.
• Reduces the occurrence of alkali-silica reactions, a type of reaction that can cause cracking and degradation in concrete.
• Decreases the intensity of sulfate attack on concrete.

Range and Method of Using Slurry in Concrete:

Permissible Range for Using Slurry in Concrete:

The permissible range for the use of Slurry 500 is from 6% to 14% of the weight of cementitious materials (6 to 14 kilograms per hundred kilograms of cementitious materials, including cement, silica fume, slag, fly ash, and other similar pozzolanic materials). The optimal amount of this slurry should be determined based on the specifications of the mix design, operational conditions, weather conditions, and ultimately, by creating test mixtures. If reactive silica aggregates are present in the concrete, the minimum consumption of the product must be determined in the laboratory.

How to Mix Slurry with concrete:

Slurry 500 should be added to the concrete ingredients at the concrete production site (batching) and during the mixing process. It is necessary to observe the following points:

After adding this product, the concrete should be thoroughly mixed for 2 to 5 minutes to ensure the uniform distribution of the additive in the concrete.

Approximately 50% of the weight of this product should be subtracted from the mixing water of the concrete.

Safety Precautions When Using Slurry 500:

• This product should not be poured in the working environment. After drying, it can contaminate the surrounding air with airborne particles, making breathing in this environment hazardous.
• In case of contact with this additive in the eyes, the person should rinse the eyes with water for at least 15 minutes, keeping the eyelids open.
• In case of contact with this additive on the skin, promptly wash the contaminated skin with clean water for 15 minutes.
• Contaminated clothing should be washed with appropriate cleaning agents before reuse.
